Signing room

Edit mode vs Sign mode in the PDF Editor

Use Edit mode to prepare documents. Use Sign mode to complete your assigned notary tags.

NotaryCentral Team•

In the signing room’s PDF Editor, notaries can switch between two working modes: Edit mode and Sign mode. These controls are visible only to notaries and help separate document setup from signing actions.

Setup stage

Edit mode

Add and arrange tags, place annotations, and prepare the document for everyone in the session.

Execution stage

Sign mode

Click and complete only the tags assigned to you as the notary.

What Edit mode is for

Use Edit mode when you are preparing the document before or during the appointment.

In Edit mode, you can:

  • Add tags to the document.
  • Add annotations where needed.
  • Adjust placement so fields are ready for signing.

Think of this as your document-preparation workspace.

What Sign mode is for

Use Sign mode when it is time for you, the notary, to act on your own required fields.

In Sign mode, you can:

  • Click tags that are assigned to you.
  • Complete your own notary signing steps.

Think of this as your notary-action workspace.

Quick rule of thumb

  • If you are building or adjusting the document, use Edit mode.
  • If you are completing your assigned notary tags, use Sign mode.

These mode controls are not shown to signers; they are available only to notaries in the signing room PDF Editor.
