Michigan does not issue a separate RON commission. Start with an active Michigan notary commission, notify the state that you will use an approved electronic or remote notarization system, then set up your NotaryCentral workspace and practice before your first live RON.

1. Start with an active Michigan notary commission
Before notifying the state about electronic or remote notarizations, make sure you already hold an active Michigan notary commission. If you are not already commissioned, complete the standard Michigan notary application process first.
2. Choose an approved vendor and collect proof
Michigan requires you to identify the approved electronic or remote notarization system you are onboarded with. If you are using NotaryCentral, download the NotaryCentral RON Provider Certificate and include it with your request package.
3. Mail the Michigan RON request package
Use the Michigan RON submission guide to review the Request for Change form, vendor proof requirement, mailing address, and no-fee filing details. Mail the signed form and vendor proof to the Michigan Department of State, Office of the Great Seal.
4. Set up your NotaryCentral workspace
After you log in to NotaryCentral, complete your workspace setup at app.notarycentral.org/search/onboarding. This is where you prepare your workspace before running RON sessions.
5. Do a practice RON
After your workspace is ready, use the Michigan practice RON training module to rehearse the flow before using it with a real signer.
6. Do a live RON
After the state has processed your request and your workspace is ready, use the Michigan live RON training module to prepare for completing a live remote online notarization.
