1. Start with a South Dakota notary commission

Before adding e-notary services, make sure you already hold an active South Dakota notary commission or are applying for or renewing one. Existing notaries use the Notary Public Change Form, while new or renewing notaries can use the Notary Public Application & Oath.

2. Prepare your electronic seal image

South Dakota requires an electronic seal image when adding e-notary services. Use the South Dakota digital seal setup page to prepare the seal image you will attach to the state form.

3. File the South Dakota e-notary materials

Use the South Dakota RON submission guide to review which form to use, what attachments to include, the vendor name list, the mailing address, and when the $30 commission filing fee applies.

4. Set up your NotaryCentral workspace

After you log in to NotaryCentral, complete your workspace setup at app.notarycentral.org/search/onboarding. This is where you prepare your workspace before running RON sessions.

5. Do a practice RON

After your workspace is ready, use the South Dakota practice RON training module to rehearse the flow before using it with a real signer.

6. Do a live RON

After your e-notary services are recorded and your workspace is ready, use the South Dakota live RON training module to prepare for completing a live remote online notarization.
