How to Capture Thumbprints in Your E-Journal

Set up your scanner, start a journal entry, and add a thumbprint in a few guided steps.

Use the steps below to get thumbprint capture working from start to finish, including charging and turning on the scanner, creating a journal entry, and scanning the thumbprint.

Before you begin: make sure the Thumbprint field is visible

If you do not see a thumbprint option inside the journal entry form, enable it first:

  1. Open Journal.
  2. Select More.
  3. Choose Personalize Journal.
  4. Click Show Thumbprint Scan field.

Step 1: Charge your device

A red light indicates that it is charging.

Step 2: Turn on the device

Hold down the large Power button in the center. A flashing blue light indicates that it is on and listening to connect to devices.

Step 3: Click on "Journal" in the mobile app

If it is your first time, you will be prompted to first fill out your Notary Commission.

Once you have inputted your Commission, click New in the Journal tab.

Step 4: Fill out the "Basics" section for the journal entry

You only need to fill out the fields marked as Required. This includes information like Place of Notarization and fee. You must fill this out before continuing to the identification stage.

Click Continue.

Step 5: Scan a thumbprint

  1. Scroll down and click Add thumbprint.
  2. Follow the guide that appears on the screen.
  3. Once you complete the instructions on the screen, you should see your thumbprint displayed.

If thumbprint capture is still unavailable, return to Journal β†’ More β†’ Personalize Journal and confirm Show Thumbprint Scan field is enabled.
