NotaryCentral uses Stripe Connect to send eligible remote online notarization (RON) and invoice payments to your bank account. Setup begins in NotaryCentral, continues on Stripe's secure hosted form, and returns you to NotaryCentral when you finish.
What Stripe Connect does in NotaryCentral
Stripe Connect is the connection between your NotaryCentral profile and the Stripe account that receives your payouts. For a client-paid RON, NotaryCentral collects payment before identity verification. After the notarization is completed and the document is released, the platform fee is deducted and the remaining eligible funds are transferred for payout. Stripe Connect can also receive payments from NotaryCentral invoice links.
This is different from the card saved under Charge Card for RON. Stripe Connect is where you receive eligible funds; Charge Card for RON is a payment method NotaryCentral can charge when a signer payment does not cover the platform fee. It is also different from Square, which NotaryCentral uses only for invoice-based payments. See the payment provider comparison for help choosing the right connection.
Stripe explains that Connect lets a platform route payments and payouts to connected accounts in its overview of how Connect works.
Before you start
Have the following ready before opening Stripe's form:
- Your legal name, date of birth, home address, phone number, and email address.
- Your business name, address, website, and tax details, if you operate as a business entity.
- Your Social Security number, tax identification number, or other identity and tax details Stripe requests for your country and business type.
- A bank account or eligible debit card for payouts. Make sure the account and routing details are correct and that the account holder information matches the information you provide.
- A valid government-issued photo ID, in case Stripe asks for additional identity verification.
- Access to the phone and email account you use with Stripe.
The exact fields can vary by country, business type, requested capabilities, and information already on file. Stripe maintains the current connected-account verification requirements. Only submit sensitive identity and banking details in the Stripe-hosted flow—not through email, chat, or a support message.
1. Open Stripe Connect in NotaryCentral
- Sign in to NotaryCentral.
- Open Menu, then go to Settings and Payment providers.
- Select Stripe Connect. You can also open the Stripe Connect settings page directly while signed in.
- Wait for NotaryCentral to check your current connection and access status.
2. Confirm that your account has access
Stripe Connect setup is available automatically to notaries whose NotaryCentral profile is marked RON-eligible.
If you see Request Stripe Connect access instead of the onboarding button:
- First review your NotaryCentral profile and commission information for accuracy.
- Select Request Stripe Connect access.
- Wait for the confirmation that the request email was sent.
- The NotaryCentral team will review the commission information associated with your profile. Return to the Stripe Connect page after approval.
Sending a request does not connect Stripe immediately, and submitting repeated requests does not speed up review. If your information is incomplete or you need help, use the NotaryCentral support options.
3. Start Stripe-hosted onboarding
When access is available, select Start Stripe onboarding. NotaryCentral creates or resumes your connected account and opens Stripe's hosted onboarding form.
Before entering information, confirm that:
- The page is served from Stripe's secure website.
- You started from the signed-in NotaryCentral Stripe Connect page.
- You are using a private device and trusted network.
Complete each page of the Stripe form. Provide the legal individual or business information requested, add the payout account, review the terms, and submit. Stripe's hosted onboarding documentation explains why this flow collects only the information currently required for the connected account.
Do not use the browser's Back button to restart setup. If the Stripe link expires or Stripe returns you without completing the form, allow NotaryCentral to redirect you to a fresh Stripe link. If that retry fails, select Try again or reopen the Stripe Connect settings page and start again. NotaryCentral will generate a fresh secure onboarding link for the same connected account.
4. Return to NotaryCentral and verify the connection
Stripe redirects you to NotaryCentral after you submit the onboarding flow. A successful return means the hosted form has ended, but it does not always mean Stripe has finished every verification. Stripe might still review information or request another document.
Return to Stripe Connect settings and confirm that you now see:
- Disconnect Stripe, which indicates that NotaryCentral has a connected Stripe account on file.
- Manage Stripe Account, when Stripe makes an account-management link available.
Select Manage Stripe Account to review Stripe's notices, update business or payout details, and respond to outstanding requirements. Keep this information current: Stripe can restrict payouts when required verification information is missing or expires. Stripe describes how requirements and verification affect connected accounts in its verification guidance.
5. Understand when money reaches your bank
A payment, transfer to your connected Stripe account, and payout to your bank are separate events. Completing a RON or receiving an invoice payment does not guarantee an instant bank deposit. Timing can depend on Stripe's initial-payout rules, your country, risk review, bank processing, weekends or holidays, and the payout schedule assigned to the account.
Use Manage Stripe Account to view Stripe's balance, payout status, expected arrival information, and any action required. Stripe's payout schedule guide explains available schedules and timing. NotaryCentral cannot accelerate a payout that Stripe or your bank is reviewing.
For RON transactions, also remember:
- The platform fee is deducted before the remaining eligible funds are paid out.
- If the signer payment is lower than the platform fee, connect a card under Charge Card for RON so the difference can be charged there.
- Complete the session and release the document as required by the workflow; collecting the signer's payment alone does not finish the notarization payout flow.
Test your setup before relying on it
After connecting, use this checklist:
- Reopen Stripe Connect and verify that the connected-state controls appear.
- Open Manage Stripe Account and resolve every Stripe alert or missing-information request.
- Confirm that the payout destination shows the bank account or debit card you intended to use.
- Review your legal name or business name, tax information, and payout currency for accuracy.
- Confirm your Charge Card for RON separately if your workflow might require NotaryCentral to charge platform fees not covered by the signer payment.
- For an invoice workflow, send a low-value real invoice only when appropriate; do not enter real card details into a test environment.
Troubleshooting
I only see “Request Stripe Connect access”
Your profile is not currently marked as automatically eligible. Review your commission profile, submit the access request once, and wait for NotaryCentral's review.
The Stripe onboarding link expired
For security, onboarding links are temporary and single-use. Return to the NotaryCentral Stripe Connect page and select the onboarding action again to create a fresh link. Do not bookmark or share the Stripe onboarding URL.
I returned to NotaryCentral, but payouts are not enabled
Open Manage Stripe Account and look for identity, tax, representative, business, or bank-account requirements. Submit the requested information directly to Stripe. A completed redirect is not proof that all reviews are complete.
My payout has not reached my bank
Check the payout status and estimated arrival in Stripe first. Confirm that the transfer exists, the payout destination is correct, and Stripe is not requesting more information. Allow for bank processing days. If Stripe shows the payout as paid but the bank cannot locate it, use Stripe's payout details when contacting the bank or support.
I connected the wrong account
On the NotaryCentral Stripe Connect page, select Disconnect Stripe and confirm the warning. Disconnecting removes the Stripe account from your NotaryCentral profile; it does not necessarily delete the Stripe account or erase Stripe's records. Reconnect only after confirming which legal entity and payout destination you intend to use. Avoid disconnecting while a payment or payout is pending—contact support first if funds are in transit.
The Manage Stripe Account button is missing
Refresh the page and check again after onboarding. If NotaryCentral shows the account as connected but cannot provide a management link, try later or contact support. Never send support your full bank account number, government ID image, password, or verification code.
Ongoing account safety and maintenance
- Start account management from NotaryCentral rather than from links in unexpected emails.
- Never share passwords, one-time codes, full tax IDs, or full bank details with NotaryCentral support.
- Review payout-destination changes immediately and secure your Stripe login if you do not recognize one.
- Respond promptly to Stripe requests so your ability to receive payouts is not interrupted.
- Keep copies of your own invoices, payout reports, and tax records. Stripe and NotaryCentral reports serve different purposes, so consult a tax professional about your reporting obligations.
Setup checklist
- My NotaryCentral profile and commission information are current.
- I can open Start Stripe onboarding, or I submitted an access request.
- I completed Stripe's hosted form with accurate legal and payout details.
- I returned to NotaryCentral and see the connected-state controls.
- I opened Manage Stripe Account and cleared outstanding requirements.
- I verified the payout destination and reviewed payout timing.
- I configured Charge Card for RON separately if my RON pricing could be lower than the platform fee.
